About The Position

The Independent Evaluation Office of UNDP supports the oversight and accountability functions of the Executive Board. The IEO conducts independent evaluations and other activities, providing UNDP and its development partners with timely knowledge and lessons from evaluations that can feed into development programming. The Independent Evaluation Office communicates its evaluation findings, conclusions and recommendations through both internal and external channels. These include presentations to the Executive Board, workshops and community of practice meetings, web products, and social media. The IEO has five Workstreams: Country Programme Evaluation; Corporate and Thematic Evaluation; Capacity Development; Engagement and communications, and Operations. The IEO Engagement and Communication unit supports the IEO different sections and teams in producing state-of-the art communication materials and engaging with the IEO stakeholders throughout the evaluation. The Communication Analyst, reporting to the Chief of Engagement and Communication unit, will support the implementation of the IEO strategy and communication workplan. The Analyst will work with different evaluation teams to ensure that key evaluation findings are clearly and properly communicated and disseminated. The Communication Analyst will also monitor the use of IEO products and leverage analytics to inform tailored communication approaches that improve outreach and user experience. This will enhance the awareness and use of evaluation knowledge, contributing to organizational learning and accountability. UNDP adopts a portfolio approach to accommodate changing business needs and leverage linkages across interventions to achieve its strategic goals. This is a recognition of interconnected nature of development risks & crises that the world is facing and that call for assembling of multidisciplinary teams for an integrated & systemic response. Therefore, UNDP personnel are expected to work across issues, units, functions, teams and projects in multidisciplinary teams in order to enhance and enable horizontal collaboration.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Communication, Media Studies, Economics, Social and Political Science is required, or
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor´s degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with additional 2 years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of Master´s degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years (with Master´s degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor´s degree) of relevant work experience in communication, evaluation, and/or international development at large.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate (quantitative and qualitative) data and evaluation knowledge into visual materials is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the use of ethical AI for enhanced consumption of evaluation knowledge is required
  • Demonstrated experience with user-experience research to improve communication and outreach for knowledge products is required
  • Fluency in English is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to create appropriate content for different communication platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, blogs, and short versions of reports is an asset
  • Experience with video production is an asset.
  • Prior work experience and/or familiarity with the work of UNDP is highly advantageous.
  • Any other official language of the United Nations (French and Spanish in particular) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Identify stories of interest in evaluation reports and define how to communicate them best
  • Read through evaluation reports to identify evidence and stories of interest that would help best communicate the evaluation findings, through quantitative and qualitative data visualization.
  • Develop visual and digital products to communicate and share evaluation knowledge
  • Identify and design visual materials for Power Point slide sets, infographics, IEO website, social media channels and other platforms, as required.
  • Manage the IEO’s social media accounts
  • Develop a social media engagement strategy for each evaluation product, including targeted messages (Twitter and LinkedIn), using appropriate language and tags, in consultation with IEO Management and Lead Evaluators.
  • Enhance IEO’s outreach through a deeper understanding of user experience
  • Monitor and analyze usage analytics for the IEO website and UNDP Evaluation Resource Center. Analyse aggregate survey results to better understand the value, use, and barriers to uptake of IEO products.
  • Support branding efforts for events such as evaluation conferences
  • Support the development of communication materials (leaflet, social media, website updates, banners) for National Evaluation Capacity conferences and other large events which see the participation of IEO colleagues
  • The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization
