About The Position

Works under the general direction of the Emergency Preparedness Director to conduct communicable disease case investigations, surveillance, and response activities to protect public health within the Southwest Utah Public Health Department jurisdiction. This role focuses on case investigations, interviews, follow-up, contact tracing, disease reporting, and coordination with healthcare providers, laboratories, and community partners. Responsibilities include data entry, case documentation, and ensuring compliance with state and local disease control plans and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, health science, nursing, biology, or a related field;
  • AND
  • One (1) year of experience in communicable disease case investigations.
  • OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with communicable disease reporting systems (e.g., EpiTrax)
  • Experience in public health or clinical settings
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Conducts communicable disease case investigations, including interviews, exposure assessments, and follow-up
  • Performs contact tracing and provide isolation and quarantine guidance
  • Enters and manages case data in state surveillance systems (e.g., EpiTrax) and ensure timely and accurate reporting in accordance with state and federal requirements
  • Monitors and responds to disease reports from healthcare providers, laboratories, and the public
  • Provides education to cases, contacts, providers, and the public on disease prevention and control
  • Assists with outbreak investigations and implement control measures
  • Participates in public health emergency response activities
  • Coordinates with healthcare providers, laboratories, schools, and community partners
  • Supports vaccination clinics or prophylaxis efforts as needed
