About The Position

The Commons Associate - Sanitation position provides front line dishroom and janitorial support for the Bates dining program which serves approximately 5,000 meals per day to the students, faculty, staff, and guests of the college. This position is responsible for following food safety and sanitation procedures as well as demonstrating positive relationships with individuals and groups with varying backgrounds, perspectives, education and skills. This position may be considered "Essential Personnel" in the event that: An emergency occurs on the Bates campus or in the vicinity that would impact Bates Inclement weather forces the closing of campus Or other emergency events deemed appropriate

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent desired.
  • Serve Safe certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Previous food service experience desired.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.
  • Strong commitment to customer service.
  • Exemplary organizational and time management skills are a must.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to relate well to individuals with varying backgrounds, education and skills.
  • Understands and thrives in a high volume food service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs dish room tasks which include loading and unloading, scrime line, and cleaning of silver.
  • Performs janitorial tasks which include cleaning bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, dusting, cleaning windows and mats, as well as recycling and trash room maintenance.
  • Ensures that proper sanitation and safety standards are being followed.
  • Maintains the highest levels of customer service practices at all times.
  • Ensures that sound environmental practices, composting, recycling, waste reduction are maintained.
  • Promotes and values diversity and practices two-way communication.
  • Attends monthly meetings for Dining, Conferences and Campus Events.
  • Assists in other areas of the operation as needed.
