About The Position

McElroy Manufacturing is looking for a results-driven Commodity Manager who thrives at the intersection of strategy, leadership, and execution. In this role, you’ll own the sourcing and supply management strategy for assigned commodity categories while leading and developing a team of Buyers and a Purchasing Coordinator. You’ll play a key role in ensuring cost competitiveness, supplier performance, and uninterrupted material flow that keeps our manufacturing operations running strong. What You’ll Do Lead and Develop People Lead, mentor, and prioritize work for Buyers and a Purchasing Coordinator within your commodity group. Drive supplier performance improvement related to delivery, quality, and service. Proactively identify supply chain risks and implement mitigation and continuity plans. Foster strong collaboration within the team and across the organization. Establish and Execute Commodity Strategies Lead supplier selection, qualification, negotiation, and long-term relationship management. Negotiate pricing, contracts, and long-term agreements to achieve year-over-year cost savings. Develop and execute sourcing strategies that balance cost, quality, delivery, and risk. Monitor market trends and leverage data to inform strategic decisions. Drive Daily Execution Partner with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Planning to support engineering changes and production requirements. Ensure daily purchasing activities are executed effectively and in compliance with company policies. Utilize MRP/DDMRP and sourcing systems to manage pricing, contracts, and supplier data. Prepare and present reports on commodity performance, cost savings, and supplier metrics. What We’re Looking For A Strong People Leader 5+ years of experience successfully leading teams. Experience mentoring or leading Buyers preferred. Proven ability to manage suppliers and lead complex negotiations. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally. Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities. Highly Experienced in Sourcing & Supply Chain 10+ years of experience in purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain management. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field required; MBA preferred. Manufacturing or industrial sourcing experience, including the ability to read engineering drawings. Advanced negotiation and supplier management skills. Manufacturing-Focused and Data-Driven Strong knowledge of raw materials, applications, and forming processes. Ability to analyze data and market trends to support strategic decision-making. Proficiency in DDMRP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (Infor XA, Intuiflow, Thruput experience a plus). Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
