About The Position

The Commodity Manager is responsible for the overall development and execution of commodity and cost reduction strategies for assigned commodities. This position has responsibility for multiple locations and commodities and utilizes tools such as reverse auctions, leveraging, VA/VE, and global sourcing to effectively drive cost out of the supply chain. This position will lead all aspects of and run assigned commodities. The successful candidate will control costs through the development of cost-effective, efficient, high-quality, lean initiatives and contracts. In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be: Develop and execute long‑term supplier strategy deployment, supplier cost modeling, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, negotiations, long‑term contracts, continuous supplier performance improvement, and supplier relationship development. Build high‑efficiency, high‑quality domestic and global sources of supply for materials, products, and services, with a focus on supply base rationalization. Lead commodity spending using sophisticated data management systems, processes, and databases, with attention to risk, price, quality, delivery, supply chain efficiency, ROTC, and working capital. Manage cross‑functional project teams, including suppliers, to efficiently implement commodity strategies, cost‑saving initiatives, and transitions in supply. Maintain a strong understanding of essential commodity trends including industry drivers, global pricing, material lead times, and technical/manufacturing processes. Negotiate long‑term agreements that reflect best‑in‑class pricing, payment terms, quality, and delivery, and are compliant with established policies and procedures. Build and sustain long‑term supplier relationships that deliver competitive advantages such as total lowest cost, exceptional product quality, and outstanding service. Conduct root‑cause analyses on supplier delivery or quality issues and implement corrective actions through supplier improvement plans. Participate in New Product Development teams and Emerson commodity teams while contributing to consensus agreements. Support and conduct reverse auctions. Perform other duties as assigned. Travel up to 15% to support domestic initiatives. Who You Are: You have strong project management and team leadership skills with the ability to develop strong support for change with all levels of internal and external organizations. You are self-driven, results oriented, and motivated to work effectively without direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Operations or another related discipline.
  • 3+ years of procurement experience in a high-paced, multi-location environment.
  • Tech savvy, with emphasis on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JDE/SAP/QlikView, Portal, Insight, IBEE, and Team Center.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of selected commodities.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of purchasing systems and principles including experience with low-cost country sourcing, auctions, VA/VE, and other leveraging tools.
  • Castings and forgings experience.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Analytical skill set coupled with intellectual curiosity for root cause and countermeasures.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to be forward looking, envision the potential and long-term goals.

  • The salary range for this role is $66,700-$110,000 annually, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to a role.
