Role Summary: The Commodity Manager owns commodity/category strategies and sourcing execution to improve total cost, quality, delivery, and supply assurance, partnering with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, and EHS to drive standardization, supplier performance, and risk mitigation.

Requirements

  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Experience negotiating and implementing contracts; deploying supply chain processes and best practices in an organization of similar size/scope
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence (coaching/mentoring peers, facilitating cross-functional decision-making, and driving accountability without direct reporting authority)
  • Working knowledge of ERP applications
  • Working knowledge of quality systems, lean and continuous improvement processes, and project management processes
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field required
  • 10+ years procurement/supply chain experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment required
  • 5+ years strategic sourcing/category management experience with demonstrated results required
  • Experience developing and executing business and/or commodity strategies required
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer; ability to stand and walk throughout the production facility as needed.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment including computers, keyboards, monitors, phones, and printers.
  • Ability to read and interpret data from computer screens, reports, schedules, and production documentation.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, reach, or stoop when interacting with materials, documentation, or workstations on the shop floor.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and leaders in office and manufacturing environments, including areas with elevated noise levels.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read screens, printed materials, and observe production activity.

Responsibilities

  • Own site commodity/category strategies (segmentation, spend analysis, market intelligence) and maintain a savings pipeline aligned to business targets.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to reduce complexity and implement value engineering, standardization, and alternate materials/processes.
  • Plan and execute sourcing events (RFI/RFP/RFQ) through award; align requirements, evaluate proposals, and lead supplier selection recommendations.
  • Develop negotiation strategies using cost-driver/should-cost analysis; negotiate and implement agreements covering pricing, terms, service levels, quality requirements, and change control.
  • Manage supplier performance using KPIs/scorecards and QBRs; drive corrective actions and continuous improvement in quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Identify and mitigate supply risk (single-source, capacity, logistics, financial/market volatility); support escalations (shortages, expedites, quality holds, price/invoice issues) and implement sustainable fixes.
  • Support NPI and growth initiatives (sourcing plans, supplier qualification readiness) and provide regular updates to Supply Chain/site leadership on savings, performance, contracts, and risk.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
