About The Position

The Commodity Buyer at Nexteer plays a vital role in sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships for various commodities including Forgings, Driveline, Stampings, Rubber, and Plastics. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability. The Commodity Buyer will also be responsible for developing commodity strategies and managing supplier commercial issues.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in the automotive industry in purchasing of direct material.
  • Experience in commodity purchasing like Forgings, Driveline, Stampings, Rubber, or Plastics.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organization and documentation abilities.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand basic engineering documents.
  • Strong knowledge of specific commodities, materials, and products being purchased.
  • High analytical ability in complex situations.

  • Experience with E-Verify processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead full sourcing process including RFQ/RFI, technical reviews, and obtaining Council approval for new business awards.
  • Cooperate with other Nexteer functions to select the best suppliers.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and products.
  • Negotiate contracts for prices and terms with outside suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain commodity strategies in alignment with organizational needs.
  • Follow market price trends and general business activities.
  • Manage supplier commercial issues and ensure compliance with GSM Policies and Procedures.
  • Establish Annual Material Budget and perform monthly budget analysis.
  • Identify, develop, and implement material cost savings with suppliers.
  • Develop new suppliers to support product line needs.
  • Negotiate and maintain up-to-date prices per material contracts.
