About The Position

What’s the role We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in energy and technology, and a passion for delivering products for a growing company. Commission programs in a retail energy environment are uniquely complex, requiring the integration of usage data, pricing structures, customer lifecycle events, contracted terms, sales agreements, billing outputs, and performance metrics. The Commissions Team Lead is responsible for the end-to-end strategy, governance, execution, and integrity of commission programs across the retail energy business. This includes external broker, partner, and incentive programs. The role ensures that all commission calculations, statements, and payments are accurate, timely, transparent, and compliant with contractual and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, possess excellent analytical and communication skills, and be comfortable taking initiative to solve problems and drive greater efficiency and process automation. Reporting to the Commercial Operations Manager, the role requires a self-motivated, dedicated, and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Finance or related field preferred
  • At least 5+ years of relevant experience in commissions or the energy industry, including a minimum of 3 years of management experience with a proven track record of organizational success
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-impact financial/operational functions with enterprise-level implications
  • Strong understanding of how commissions influence revenue performance, and customer lifecycle economics
  • Ability to interpret broker agreements and rate structures with precision
  • Ability to explain complex commission methodologies to executive leaders, sales teams, brokers, and technical stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose issues across data, logic, systems, and contract terms
  • Meticulous, highly organized, and self-directed approach to work, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment and prioritize competing tasks in time-constrained situations
  • Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with multiple functions and gain alignment across the organization
  • Highly experienced in supporting teams and projects in a fast-paced environment, with often overlapping of projects and priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills must be able to provide timely and accurate data analysis

Responsibilities

  • Define the strategic direction for commissions operations across external sales channels
  • Serve as the organization’s senior authority on commission structures, payment models, contract interpretation, and performance qualifications
  • Ensure all commissions activities support commercial priorities, revenue goals, and compliance obligations
  • Own the end-to-end commissions lifecycle: data ingestion, calculation, adjustments, audit, approval workflows, statement creation, and payment execution
  • Manage day-to-day operations of our broker compensation plans, ensuring completion of commission payments are accurate/timely and paid in accordance with plan provisions
  • Oversee design and validation of commission logic within new systems, ensuring alignment with broker agreements, regulatory rules, and billing outputs
  • Partner with Sales, Commercial, Billing, Pricing, Finance, Technology, Legal, and Business Execution to ensure all commission-related dependencies and issues are understood, managed and resolved
  • Maintain proper documentation of the commissions processes and related controls
  • Establish and enforce a strong operational control framework to prevent payment errors, overpayments, and financial leakage
  • Collaborate with Sales leadership to ensure broker commission programs support sales strategy and competitive positioning through the implementation of commission/incentive processing policies and procedures, assist in modeling commission plans, and provide cost impact solutions
  • Serve as a point of contact on escalated inquiries regarding complex commission related processing problems and develop appropriate solutions to resolve exception payment requirements
  • Partner with Finance and Accounting to validate accruals, forecasts, and payout accuracy
  • Proactively identify financial risks associated with system changes, data quality issues, or contract discrepancies
  • Analyze and assess the accuracy of commission reports and prepare adjustments before summary reports are finalized
  • Submit monthly/quarterly commission summary reports and consult with leadership team on trends
  • Lead talent development initiatives, including recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and succession planning to build and maintain a high-performing team
  • Establish a strong coaching cadence, conducting regular check-ins focused on performance insights, developmental feedback, and career growth opportunities for team members
  • Champion a high-performance culture by recognizing and rewarding excellence, fostering collaboration, and strengthening team morale
  • Perform additional strategic duties as assigned to support organizational priorities and operational transformation initiatives

Benefits

  • The base salary range for this position is $115,000 - $173,000 per year. As pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity
  • For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs.
  • Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan.
  • Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
  • Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance.
