SUMMARY This colleague independently performs a variety of assignments related to Energy Assessment, Energy Conservation, Facility Optimization, Energy Studies, Measurement Verification, Monitoring-Based Commissioning, and Commissioning/Validation projects while fostering a collaborative approach to all activities and works effectively with other practice colleagues.

Requirements

This position normally requires a 2-year engineering degree or equivalent working knowledge/experience in a technical role in the built environment, such as Commissioning Technician, HVAC Technician, or Energy Specialist.
A top candidate would have working knowledge of various computer software packages, instrumentation, and testing equipment.
This position should have achieved or is working toward an appropriate Commissioning Certification, such as the CEM, CxA, etc., or trades certifications.

Responsibilities

Applies understanding of plans and specifications and knowledge of the use of templates, checklists and basic functional and performance tests to successfully complete responsibilities.
Develops and performs system installation verification and functional performance testing.
Performs onsite validation and review of equipment and controls to identify proper operation and/or opportunities to improve performance.
Prepares and reviews energy studies, including audits and analysis of existing and new building systems (HVAC, lighting, envelope, etc.).
Assists with energy calculations, utility rate structures, testing procedures, plans, or reports involving HVAC, lighting, standby power, and other energy-consuming or producing equipment, components, or systems.
Verifies that owners' project requirements are met from project design through operations.
Prepares clear, visually compelling reports and presentations for internal teams, owners, and decision-makers.
Executes various computer-based building modeling programs to evaluate and simulate system performance and utility incentives or code compliance.
Uses computer-based energy and fault detection software.
Independently interprets system data and provides documentation on situations of low to medium complexity.
