About The Position

As a Data Center Commissioning Engineer (CxE), you will be part of a highly creative, efficient team tasked with tackling fascinating and challenging problems building and supporting the operations of Amazon owned data centers. The Amazon Commissioning team (ACx) understands, evaluates, defines and manages the expectations of construction quality in accordance to engineering designs to meet the customer requirements. The CxE is responsible for supporting vendors, contractors, and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of various systems such as medium and low voltage power systems, generators, UPS, HVAC, chilled water systems, building management systems, electrical power monitoring systems, testing and balancing, and pumps and hydronic systems. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or 5 years of relevant discipline work experience.
  • High technical competency in either mechanical or electrical or control systems utilized in critical infrastructures.
  • Understand the design concept and intent by reviewing mechanical or electrical design documentation.
  • Develop and review commissioning documentation such as test plans, scripts, and reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook required; advanced knowledge of SharePoint (or similar) preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, detail oriented, highly organized, and able to work in high stress environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures.
  • Ability to read and edit construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).
  • Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components.

Responsibilities

  • Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Review design documents and equipment submittals.
  • Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT).
  • Manage third-party commissioning vendors in the performance of onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
  • Resolve technical issues and address schedule impacts and coordination demands onsite.
  • Share lessons learned leading towards team growth and program improvements.
  • Provide multi-discipline input into the scheduling, test script development, designing, and planning of projects.
  • Audit Cx vendors’ activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Regularly report commissioning progress and metrics of assigned project to the Regional Commissioning Manager.
  • Lead several projects simultaneously to achieve key milestones and deliver data center capacity while managing project budget.
