About The Position
The Dallas Independent School District (DISD) is seeking a dedicated and professional Commissioned Security Officer for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is crucial for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors on campus. The selected candidate will be responsible for the prevention and detection of criminal activity and safety hazards, ensuring the overall safety of the school community. The role requires active engagement with students and district personnel, as well as the ability to resolve conflicts and confrontations effectively. The officer will patrol both the interior and exterior areas of the campus, providing a visible security presence and fostering a sense of safety among the school community. In addition to patrolling duties, the Commissioned Security Officer will be tasked with reporting any incidents or criminal activities to their supervisor immediately. Adherence to the policies and procedures set forth by the Board of Trustees, the district, and the Police and Security Department is mandatory. The officer must also comply with grooming standards and dress policies as required for uniformed personnel. The position requires attendance at all scheduled meetings as directed by the supervisor. This role is not only about enforcing rules but also about building relationships within the school community to promote a safe learning environment. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or GED. A Texas Department of Public Safety Level III Security License is required, along with a willingness to undergo a criminal background check, psychological exam, medical exam, and drug screening. The ability to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision is essential, as is the capacity to de-escalate conflict situations. Knowledge of relevant security equipment and strategies is necessary to ensure effective school security operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and must be computer literate. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred, enhancing the officer's ability to interact with a diverse school community.
