About The Position
Under close supervision of a sergeant, the duties of the position include, but are not limited to, performing routine NAS/HM inspections at the facility or in the field and hazardous material inspections on commercial vehicles to determine if they comply with weight, size, registration, safety and equipment requirements as prescribed by C.F.R. 49, Title 13 C.C.R. and California Vehicle Code, and upon compliance, issue and affix CVSA decals to vehicles. Operate scales, detect overweight vehicles, weigh and obtain pertinent information and refer to traffic officer for enforcement action. Prepare accurate, legible inspection report forms documenting all mechanical defects and driver qualification deficiencies, examine driver qualification cards and papers, registration papers, manifest, bills of lading, shipping papers and operate MIS computer to determine compliance.
