About The Position

The Commercial Underwriting Specialist at Hastings Insurance is responsible for generating new commercial business by reviewing, accepting, or denying commercial insurance risks in accordance with company guidelines. This remote position requires regular travel to provide in-person service to agents across Northeastern Ohio, ensuring profitability and growth for the company.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree, formal Insurance education, or equivalent work experience.
• 5-8 years of successful Commercial Lines Underwriting experience, with expertise in developing new agency relationships.
• Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or similar designation required.
• Ability to perform daily field and occasional overnight travel within the assigned territory.
• Valid driver's license and adherence to Company Fleet Safety Guidelines.
• Mastery in oral presentation and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Review, approve, and process applications according to underwriting guidelines to meet corporate premium and profitability objectives.
• Demonstrate understanding of all commercial products, pricing, and coverages, including authority levels and guidelines.
• Negotiate and communicate effectively with the agency force, including regular in-person visits to assigned agencies.
• Train and support team members, including new employees and Underwriting Trainees, to achieve corporate and professional goals.
• Utilize systems and communication skills effectively to support overall corporate objectives.
