About The Position

Job Summary Overview The position is responsible for and performs financial analysis and completion of loan presentations for complex C&I and CRE loan transactions. Essential Job Functions Generates credit memos for loan approvals/loan recommendations that properly identify debt capacity, cash flow adequacy, overall risks and mitigants, and risk rating; generates presentations for larger loan requests to Business Loan Committee. Responsible for risk grading accuracy, annual reviews as well as financial statement spreading, compliance and regulatory reviews. Updates reports that track annual review relationships and tracks receipt of financials. Utilizes lending authority to approve or decline credit request within their delegated loan authority. Meets acceptable standards for underwriting timing and quality as determined by credit administration. Provides input and feedback in weekly pipeline meetings. Works actively with loan officers and credit administration to recommend appropriate reporting and financial covenants. Gains understanding of financial covenants and definitions for each. Maintains strong understanding of Credit Union’s underwriting standards including assessment of risks and mitigants specific to each loan transaction. Assists with training and support of Credit Administration staff related to job functions, policy, underwriting techniques and guidelines. Maintains working knowledge of software associated with commercial lending including Sageworks, Silverlake and any others. Follows established standards for completion of tasks and monitoring of progress in Sageworks. Prepares modification memos as appropriate to present to approval process for any recommended changes to loan presentations. Assists in collection of construction related documents and submission to Construction Loan Manager for completion of a detailed budget. Collaborates with other departments to correct deficient items pursuant to post closing review of closed commercial loans. Maintains a strong understanding of commercial loan policy and procedures and recommends changes to the Chief Credit Officer that mitigate risks to the Credit Union. Documents and monitors loan policy exceptions are noted in underwriting narrative. Participates in ongoing commercial lending training including Omega courses and associated AFCU training commensurate to job title. Attends Member Business Loan Committee and make presentations, as requested, to support the commercial lending approval process. Ability to complete work in a timely manner from a remote location and accessibility to meet at AFCU Ops center when necessary for team meetings, training, or other related activities. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or any related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience underwriting all types of C&I and CRE loans.
  • Strong understanding of commercial loan legal documentation, title reports, entity documents, and other reports associated with the commercial lending processes.
  • Strong analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to review business financials and business/personal tax returns for complex commercial lending transactions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Officer and Microsoft Excel.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial lending compliance and credit regulations.
  • Professional written, verbal communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to produce quality work within tight time frames while managing multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work on core processing systems and department specific processing systems.
  • Strong work ethic, the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing deadlines, advanced interpersonal skills, excellent communication, and the desire to work as a team to support the overall success of the credit union.
  • Strong knowledge base about commercial real estate and conventional underwriting, policies, and procedures.
