About The Position

The Commercial Truck Driver (Class A or Class B) is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of redwood, composite decking, lumber, and other building materials to job sites, residential properties, and contractor yards. This position plays a key role in ensuring on-time, damage-free deliveries while providing top-tier customer service and supporting the operational needs of our yard and dispatch teams.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
  • Clean driving record with a strong history of safe driving practices
  • 1–2 years of commercial driving experience preferred (especially in the building materials industry)
  • Forklift and piggyback forklift operation experience preferred (certification is a plus)
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to communicate effectively with non-technical and technical customers
  • Familiarity with building materials—particularly redwood, composite decking, framing lumber, and hardware—is highly desirable
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate a variety of jobsite environments
  • Strong understanding of load securement and weight distribution principles
  • Ability to navigate safely in tight spaces (residential neighborhoods, active job sites)
  • Comfortable using smartphones/tablets for delivery tracking apps and digital logs
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and dependable with a professional demeanor
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to climb in/out of truck beds and operate piggyback forklifts on varied terrain
  • Prolonged periods of standing, lifting, walking, and operating equipment

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a Class A or Class B commercial truck, including flatbed or dump trucks, and utilize piggyback forklifts for loading/unloading when needed
  • Deliver redwood, composite materials, lumber, hardware, and job-specific materials to a variety of customer sites—including residential driveways, job sites, and contractor yards
  • Load and unload product safely and efficiently based on delivery tickets, ensuring accuracy and protection of materials
  • Secure all loads using required tie-downs, including straps and edge protectors, in accordance with load securement standards
  • Operate a truck-mounted piggyback forklift for loading and unloading materials at customer sites and job locations
  • Read and interpret delivery instructions, route sheets, and customer notes to ensure timely, accurate service
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding delays, site access issues, or material discrepancies
  • Interact professionally with contractors and homeowners on-site, providing excellent service and resolving any basic delivery-related questions
  • Assist in verifying inventory and material readiness before loading; report shortages or material issues promptly
  • Maintain accurate logs and delivery paperwork, including signatures, photos (as needed), and incident reports
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report maintenance concerns and ensure the truck is clean and road-ready
  • Support the yard and operations team when not on delivery, including stocking, organizing inventory, staging orders, or assisting with customer pickups
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions to maintain a safe working environment
  • Adhere to company policies, DOT regulations, and all safety procedures at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
