MUFG is seeking a skilled and motivated attorney to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have experience in-house advising on data privacy, information security, and intellectual property laws and regulations, and/or technology contracting. This role requires excellent analytical skills, an understanding of technology transactions, and the ability to navigate complex legal environments and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. This attorney will be a member of MUFG’s Enterprise Transactions, Data & Technology, and Information Security Legal team, a unit within MUFG’s Americas Legal Department, which provides support to MUFG’s U.S. operations and global business lines on a broad range of advisory and transactional matters. Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and must be compliant with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
  • 1-5 years of experience gained while in law school or in-house at a public corporation, law firm, or financial services regulatory agency.
  • Understanding of, and experience in, analyzing and applying federal, state, and international laws.
  • Strong issue spotting, risk assessment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skill and ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong work ethic, fast-learner and self-starter, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, ability to execute tasks in a timely manner and be responsive to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of commercial awareness and to make sound judgment calls in a fast-moving business environment, together with an ability to identify and manage contractual risk and to issue-spot and develop/execute strategies for addressing.

Nice To Haves

  • In-house experience in the financial services or technology industry.
  • Contract negotiation experience, particularly for technology and licensing contracts.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience drafting/reviewing privacy policies and notices and creating and advising on the administration of privacy and security compliance programs.
  • Ability to ideate and interest in innovation, particularly as it relates to legal department and inter-company activities and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess risks related to compliance with laws and regulations applicable to the financial services industry, including federal, state, and international laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Structure, negotiate and draft a variety of software-as-a-service, software licensing, hardware procurement, professional services, and IT services agreements, as well as a variety of other types of contracts/commercial arrangements.
  • Become familiar with, and provide legal advice related to, MUFG business strategies and priorities and their implications on the enterprise.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including Third Party Risk Management, Procurement, and Enterprise Information Security on a variety of issues related to privacy, data security, artificial intelligence, and technology.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in MUFG’s other regional branches to coordinate efforts and optimize MUFG’s global approach.
