About The Position

The Commercial Relationship Lender is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day business practices of promoting and servicing small business products and services throughout the community and credit union members. This position works with the Chief Revenue Officer to development and implement a strategic, multi-faceted business development program that is designed to promote, retain and increase the Credit Union’s small business membership and visibility in the communities that we serve. Outstanding customer service and relationship building skills are essential in this role, as a key component is to identify opportunities to promote the credit union and increase membership growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business management, communications, or equivalent. We value practical experience and will consider relevant years of experience as a substitute for formal educational qualifications.
  • 5+ years of business development or account management experience, ideally within banking or retail settings
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build collaborative relationships, deliver effective public presentations, and strategically plan and achieve sales goals.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial lending terms and practices.
  • Proficient computer skills, including advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in all situations and cultivates positive, effective relationships with individuals at all levels.
  • Self-directed, motivated, organized, and detail oriented.
  • Complete adherence to all corporate standards.

Responsibilities

  • Business Lending Knowledge & Sales Development
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of member business loan products and the underwriting procedures for business lending.
  • Responsible for creating sales proposals to clearly communicate the benefits of the credit union and ultimately get the business to become a member.
  • Responsible for meeting with members and gaining a complete understanding of their loan requests, determining that the requests are within credit union policy, and obtaining complete business loan applications.
  • Provides strategic leadership to cultivate and maintain successful business member relationships, driving the growth of loans, products, and services to maximize credit union sales and revenue.
  • Supports all Branches in business lending development and provides training to Branch associates on product features and benefits to enhance their knowledge and effectiveness.
  • Responsible for monitoring the local market to stay aware of competitor offerings and develops a clear understanding of the credit union’s competitive strengths within the market.
  • Underwriting, Documentation & Closing
  • Acts as a liaison with CU Business Group and Innovative Business Solutions during the underwriting process to assure a timely and seamless process for the member.
  • Responsible for reviewing the loan documentation for completeness, and setup and supervise the loan closing with the member and arrange with the loan department for appropriate loan disbursements.
  • Ensures the timely acquisition of appropriate hazard and title insurance policies, and actively monitors the tickler system for updates on hazard insurance, rate changes, UCC filings, annual reviews, and loan maturities.
  • Oversee the Commercial Loan Assistant to ensure the completion of commercial loan documentation.
  • Portfolio Management & Risk Monitoring
  • Responsible for contacting member businesses to collect annual financial statements and tax returns, complete an updated debt service coverage ratio and loan-to-value calculation in conjunction with completing annual loan reviews.
  • Responsible for monitoring delinquency of the business loan portfolio and contacting the borrowers as necessary.
  • Responsible for quarterly Allowance for Loans and Lease Losses updates with pertinent information for business loans rated either “Watch” or “Substandard”.
  • Responsible for monthly reporting and risk monitoring including: Risk Ratings, industry codes, loan volume, Change Dates, collateral tracking and insurance tracking.
  • Responsible for accurate completion of monthly Board report and incentive report.
  • Ensures the highest level of member satisfaction by promptly addressing and resolving service issues, complaints, and concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring accountability and alignment with organizational objectives.
