About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Commercial Refrigeration Technician with proven experience in servicing, maintaining, and installing walk-in coolers and other commercial refrigeration systems. The candidate must possess strong technical knowledge, EPA Section 608 certification, and a commitment to safety and compliance with industry regulations. Location: Washington DC corridor Pay: $55/hr- affiliated with the Local 602 union

Requirements

  • Technical training or HVAC certification- Current Journeyman HVAC license in MD, DC, or VA
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (Type I, II, III).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial refrigeration, specifically with walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety protocols and walk-in cooler design standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with energy-efficient systems and environmentally friendly refrigerants.
  • Knowledge of building codes and refrigeration regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls.

Responsibilities

  • Installation & Setup Install commercial refrigeration systems including walk-in coolers, freezers, display cases, and chillers.
  • Conduct site assessments and ensure proper placement, electrical connections, and insulation.
  • Configure control systems and verify operational efficiency.
  • Maintenance & Repair Perform routine maintenance: clean coils, replace filters, inspect electrical components, and check refrigerant levels.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and troubleshoot system failures.
  • Compliance & Safety Adhere to OSHA , NSF/ANSI 7 , and EPA Section 608 standards.
  • Handle refrigerants safely and legally, ensuring proper recovery, recycling, and disposal.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Customer Service & Communication Communicate effectively with clients regarding system performance, repairs, and energy efficiency.
  • Provide recommendations for upgrades or preventive maintenance.
