We are looking for an on-site Commercial (Financial) Project Manager for our Rail Infrastructure business in either Pittsburgh, PA, Las Vegas, NV, or Sacramento, CA, to support a grouping of several short and long-term projects ranging from $5M - $70M. This role encompasses sales controlling, performance measurement, planning, forecasting, and reporting. The primary contacts for the CPM include Customers, Suppliers, Project Managers/ Engineers, Procurement, Legal Department, Operational Review, other Commercial Project Managers, the Head of Local Finance & Business Administration, Auditors, and Central Financial Services. In collaboration with the Project Manager, the Commercial Project Manager will oversee all project phases, including planning, design, procurement, manufacturing, commissioning, customer acceptance, and warranty, with a focus on financial aspects. Responsibilities include liaising with operational departments to ensure financial targets are met while achieving goals for customer satisfaction, schedule, and quality. A crucial part of the role involves maintaining tight cost control and providing accurate and timely information to support key financial decisions. The Commercial Project Manager will be accountable for all financial aspects of the project and will report to the Director of Finance & Business Administration for the business.

  • Liaise with operational departments to ensure financial targets are met while achieving goals for customer satisfaction, schedule, and quality.
  • Maintain tight cost control and provide accurate and timely information to support key financial decisions.
  • Create bookings, set up project WBS structure, budget, and monitor project financial status based on planned delivery schedule.
  • Perform financial planning, forecasting, controlling, reconciliation of project cash flow, and routine deviation analysis using SAP and local GAAP requirements.
  • Implement and drive measures to use opportunities to improve project performance (claims management and variation management).
  • Monitor and communicate trends, assess implications, and develop practical projects-related strategies.
  • Lead the admin side of given projects such as invoicing, booking, and monitoring/controlling budget spending in procurement.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Project Managers, Legal, Operations, Procurement, Engineering, HR, etc.) to help them manage their financial goals and drive better efficiency and productivity on bids, proposals, and ongoing projects.
  • Recommend, implement, and report on benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance.
  • Assist in the production and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to assess key drivers impacting the Company's performance.
  • Validated experience (3+ years) with financial planning, accounting, and finance.
  • Bachelor's degree required, with a major in Finance, Economics, Business or Accounting preferred; CPA, MBA or MS a plus.
  • Project Management Certification is preferred.
  • Rail industry sector experience and exposure to controlling and accounting, contracts and claims management, and supply chain management in a factory environment.
  • Advanced analytical abilities, financial modeling, and strong Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP a plus).
  • Ability to provide strategic insight through the use of financial metrics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact and present at all levels of the organization.
  • A high sense of urgency, ability to multi-task, and handle challenging deadlines.
  • Ability to travel on a quarterly basis to our office in the Portland, OR area and to visit our customers across the US.
  • Experience in the rail industry sector.
