This position is responsible to ensure equal opportunity in employment in that all persons are treated equally and on the basis of merit, in decisions regarding selection, placement, promotions, training, work assignments, transfers and other personnel actions. - Commercial Plans Examiner Plano, Texas Reports to: Plan Review Manager Purpose of Position/ Function: Working under the direction of the Plan Review Manager, the Plans Examiner is responsible for performing a full range of plan reviews and evaluations for complex structural and non-structural components including plumbing, mechanical, electrical systems for commercial, industrial and residential buildings in accordance with the appropriate codes, and other applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • 1 - 5 years minimum as a Commercial Plans Examiner
  • Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
  • Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.
  • Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Nice To Haves

  • ICC Plans Examiner Certification Preferred or the ability to obtain additional certifications as it relates to work performance and duties.
  • Prior Building Department plan review experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform Plan Review assignments between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday–Friday
  • Perform daily duties responsibly and safely with respect to private and personal property.
  • Readily communicate with staff, citizens and builder/contractors as necessary.
  • Readily communicate with team members.
  • Working knowledge of the ICC Codes and applicable local codes and amendments
  • Prepare written plan review correspondence and update information into various computer software programs.
  • Assess and resolve complaints received from clients, designers or contractors
  • Promote professional development by achieving additional ICC certifications, attending training opportunities and consistent study of codes and standards as related to work performance.
  • Working knowledge of office computer software - Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  • Must possess problem solving skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license
