We are seeking a seasoned Commercial Officer with a strong background in sales, relationship management, and customer service to join our community-focused Bank in the Charlottesville Market. This role is ideal for a self-starter with strong credit skills, a passion for relationship management and community development, and a drive to exceed goals. As a Commercial Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining, growing, and servicing a diverse commercial portfolio. You’ll lead relationship strategy, drive new business development, and deliver tailored financial solutions that support your clients’ growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field of study. AA or AS degree with six or more years of relevant lending experience or ten or more years of relevant experience with no degree may be substituted for bachelor’s degree. Formal Commercial Credit and/or Lending training preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relatable experience in commercial banking or business lending
  • Proven track record in sales, portfolio growth, and client retention
  • Strong credit analysis and underwriting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Deep understanding of local market dynamics and business needs
  • Proficiency in banking software and CRM systems

Nice To Haves

  • Formal Commercial Credit and/or Lending training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management: Maintain and monitor an existing portfolio of commercial clients, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and portfolio performance.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and community involvement. Develop tailored financial solutions to meet client needs.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for commercial clients. Provide exceptional service and strategic financial guidance to help clients grow and succeed.
  • Credit Analysis & Underwriting: Collaborate with credit analysts to assess creditworthiness, structure loans, and prepare credit presentations.
  • Cross-Selling: Promote and cross-sell bank products and services including treasury management, mortgage, and investments.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Monitor portfolio risk and take proactive steps to mitigate issues.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the bank at local events and within business associations to enhance visibility and build relationships.
