About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Pavement Maintenance Project Manager, or designee, performs application, maintenance, preservation, repairs of asphalt of parking lots, paved trails and sidewalks including, but not limited to, pavement, curbs, drains, culverts and catch basins. Operates a variety of equipment and vehicles such as: asphalt track paver, compact track loader, mini-excavator, asphalt roller, pavement crack seal kettle, water-discharge pumps, pavement router, air compressor, pressure washers, hotbox, tractors, trimmers, saws, grapple hooks, sweepers, vacuums/blowers, vactor truck/rodder, single axle and tandem axle dump trucks, spreaders, snowplows, concrete breaker, handheld and walk behind concrete saws, asphalt plate tamper, asphalt pavement milling attachment. Manually/mechanically loads and unloads vehicles with a variety of materials, equipment, barricades, etc. Maintains and stores equipment. Transports equipment. Performs snow and ice removal by operating a snowplow along with the utilization of a road deicer (salt spreader and/or brine sprayer). Provides perimeter direction and safety controls for pedestrian and vehicular traffic in affected work/restricted areas. Performs other duties as required. This is a full-time Local 700 union position. Typical Duties This position is not solely a CMVD driving assignment, this position also requires the performance of manual labor duties as part of daily assignments. Tasks include lifting, shoveling, raking, carrying materials, equipment operation support, and other related field work as needed.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED or higher.
  • Must have at least 2 years of full-time work experience performing asphalt pavement work.
  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of at least 1 season of snow plowing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs on pavement faults in parking lots, trails, and walkways by removing and replacing damaged asphalt; as well as repairs on other District assets such as sewer drains, catch basins, culverts, retaining walls, stone shelters and stairwells.
  • Installs/removes signs, posts, counters and fencing using various equipment such as, but not limited to post pounders, skid-steer, hydraulic/hand-held augers, shovels, drills, and other hand tools
  • Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles/ equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Performs snow removal and de-icing operations.
  • Transports/delivers project equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Sets up pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety controls at project work; includes set up of proper roadside/parking lot closures for worksite protection.
  • In cases of emergency or natural disaster, performs flood control work involving the placement of barricades and sandbags, assistance with pumping operations and other required job duties as directed.
  • Performs street sweeping and vacuuming at District parking lots.
  • Performs required maintenance on permeable paved parking lots and retention ponds.
  • Removes graffiti on District property with graffiti blaster, pressure washers, graffiti removal products, and/or by painting over.
  • Performs the removal of trash, illegal fly-dumps, debris and other assorted materials along District adjacent roadsides.
  • Prepares and submits daily work log records relative to work completed projects and/or assignments manually and/or electronically.
  • Exercises safe and efficient judgment, skill, and discretion in the performance of duties and problem solving.
