About The Position

The Commercial Manager will develop and maintain commercial leads within the Bulk, Dry bulk and MPP/project cargo segment, and be responsible for the revenue generated by these accounts. The role will involve nurturing relationships with legacy clients, managing their accounts, ensuring client satisfaction, and finding ways to enhance client retention, operational efficiency and profitability through new product and service offerings and alternate revenues. The growth aspect is focused on acquiring new clients, exploring new markets and identifying strategic areas for development, with a focus on direct relations with commodity clients (i.e. mining companies, minor bulks, and breakbulk cargoes – coal, petcoke, soda ash, pellets, lumber etc.). The Commercial Manager should have a team-orientated mindset and be able to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team. They must have superior communications and time management skills, problem-solving ability, negotiation tactics, a solid understanding of the Maritime industry, and the ability to onboard new clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ verifiable experience in Commercial Maritime Operations.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ verifiable experience in Sales and Relationship Building.
  • Previous experience in the marine agency or related industry required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally and internationally up to 25% of the time.
  • Strong understanding of port agency services and vessel operations is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task across procedural and project management tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a dynamic fast paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to pivot among priorities quickly and deliver short-term analytics and long-term projects.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Confident decision-making skills, particularly in defining project guidelines, purpose, follow-through, and successful completion.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting, including budgeting and project cost control.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills are mandatory.
  • Comfortable communicating and interacting with remote teams at all levels to gather information.
  • Understanding of financial reports including budgetary guidelines and project expenditures.
  • Self-directed, results oriented.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean / safe motor vehicle record.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).

Responsibilities

  • Act as an Ambassador for the Norton Lilly brand at local industry events and receptions, promoting the brand and product, to position the company strategically within the marketplace.
  • Manage and collaborate with KAMs to execute assigned business plans with clients.
  • Participate in sales presentations, sales meetings, and trade shows.
  • Work closely with clients to assess their needs and determine achievable goals.
  • Develop and aggressively pursue leads and industry contacts to expand business opportunities.
  • Identify and evaluate business opportunities both within and around the agency business.
  • Lead and grow the practice of analytics as a mechanism to create competitive advantages.
  • Build and manage relationships with technology providers to integrate data analytics tools in coordination with operation and business analyst teams to support commercial objectives.
  • Responsible for synthesizing numerous sources of data and key analysis into actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with frontline operations to implement Data and Analytics initiatives and enhance awareness of data-driven decision-making.
  • Provide strategic and tactical direction to ensure operational efficiency, eliminate duplications, and establish priorities that align with company objectives.
  • Other duties as required by Management.
