About The Position

DRE is looking for experienced Commercial Technicians for copper and fiber network installations and service and to be an integral part of the low voltage structured cabling team. Potential prospects need to be self-starters with focus and a commitment to ensuring a standard of excellence while meeting DRE's policies and procedures. A Low Voltage Technician will install and service several types of network infrastructures and systems. Work includes installation of voice, data, security, access control, firm alarm and CCTV for commercial and industrial applications.

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years' experience with the proper pulling techniques for all category cable, coaxial cable, fiber optic cable and high pair count copper backbone cabling.
  • Ability to fully interpret and work from project drawings.
  • Proficient with installation of Racking system, termination and dressing cable in network closets.
  • Understand all construction Low voltage System blue prints and symbols.
  • Understand and install cable pathway per current standards.
  • Proven knowledge and abilities of installation practices for UTP cabling.
  • Experience terminating connections on a wide variety of network and AV related cables using a wide array of crimp tools and stripping devices.
  • Familiar with a variety of AV cabling terminations, Security cabling techniques, and Security cabling terminations.
  • Strong understanding of proper attachment hardware, mounting procedures and raceway construction.
  • Solid understanding of cabling standards (ANSI/TIA/EIA 568B, BICSI, NEC, IEEE, NFPA).
  • Experience working with systems such as Honeywell, DSC, Keri Systems, Bosch, Digital Watchdog, Avigilon preferred.
  • Good technical and mechanical skills.
  • System integration experience.
  • Certificates in manufacturer installation procedures a plus.
  • Ability to manage material estimates.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and pre-planning abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all tasks required for installation of a complete structured cabling system in a new or existing construction environment.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with methods, equipment and materials used in installation, maintenance and repair of low voltage cable equipment and systems.
  • Perform all cable pulling and installation processes including category rated cables, coaxial, fiber-optics and other low voltage wiring.
  • Terminate, label and test a variety of different manufactures connectivity hardware.
  • Construction of communication closets including determining closet and equipment layouts and installing closet hardware.
  • Installation of cable pathway development, raceway and attachments.
  • Test, diagnose, and correct connection and system problems.
  • Read layouts from blueprints.
  • Wireless installations and troubleshooting.
  • Install outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping and pre-termination including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards.
  • Remove abandoned or replaced cables.
  • Installation of various types of security devices such as Magnetic-Locks, Door Strikes, Key Pads, Badge Readers, Motion Detectors, Glass Breaks, Crash Bars, CCTV systems, IP Cameras.
  • Installation and set up of projectors, wired and wireless speaker points, teleconferencing equipment, and flat panel displays.
  • Installation and setup of rack mounted A/V equipment such as tuners, receivers, HDMI splitters, switchers, and amplifiers.
  • Installation of integration and automation hardware & software such as Control 4, Crestron, Extron, AMX, and Lutron.
  • Installation of touch screen panels for A/V control, cameras, RF transmitters, and IR bugs.
  • Inspect, repair, install, test, service and maintain low voltage systems.
  • Keep work areas in a safe, clean condition and well organized.
  • Use industry related hand tools and power tools.
  • Communicate effectively with Foremen and crewmembers.
  • Maintain workflow schedule to ensure all DRE productivity objectives are met.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and courtesy when interacting with colleagues, customers and vendors.
