About The Position

Under moderate supervision and following standard procedures with some independent judgment, the Commercial Lines Underwriter reviews insurance applications to evaluate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing by performing the following duties.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
• No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and evaluates insurance applications, renewals and endorsements within defined authority, approve, modify or decline risks.
• Determines and authorizes reinsurance, if necessary.
• Communicates with agents and internal staff to collect necessary information to perform risk assessment.
• Builds and maintains positive working relationships with agents and internal staff; assists and responds to inquiries by telephone, correspondence, and agency visits.
• Maintains profitable business in territory through proper selection, pricing, and monitoring of business.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
