We offer career opportunities where you can contribute and grow. Our Commercial Small Business department is currently seeking underwriters for a class starting in January 2026. Small Business underwriters write new small business accounts, manage a renewal book, and contribute to growth and profitability. This position is based at our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio. The pay rate for this position is $28.85 hourly. The hourly pay rate will convert to $60,000 annually upon successful completion of training. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Responsibilities

  • manage a defined book of business comprised of new business and renewal submissions in coordination with multiple associate underwriters
  • make decisions on new business referrals as to acceptability, including modifications to the terms, conditions and pricing of the policy as necessary
  • responsible for achieving service expectations and work performance goals
  • balance performance goals with profit and growth objectives
  • collaborate with other departments such as sales to provide the best service to agencies
  • mentors associate underwriters through collaboration on applicable new business, renewal, and endorsement underwriting
  • handle special projects and assignments as directed
