About The Position

Join a forward thinking underwriting team during an exciting period of growth and transformation. We’re seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter II who is ready to contribute to profitable results, strengthen agency relationships, and support the continued modernization of Commercial Lines underwriting practices. In this role, you will drive Commercial Lines growth by underwriting new business while partnering closely with agency staff, Business Development Representatives, and Renewal Underwriters. You will manage assigned agencies by analyzing and monitoring performance, identifying trends and opportunities, and influencing the overall quality, profitability, and composition of the book of business in alignment with company objectives. The Underwriter II applies developing technical expertise to evaluate risk, research and resolve underwriting issues, and ensure high‑quality, guideline‑driven decisions. This role also supports service and production standards, contributes market and industry insights, and provides technical guidance and training to help develop underwriting talent and advance modern underwriting practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience in insurance or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of Commercial Lines underwriting experience; or Associate’s Degree plus 4–6 years of related experience.
  • Prior experience as a Commercial Lines Underwriter I or equivalent role at another insurer or underwriting services organization is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise strong business judgment, analytical thinking, effective written and verbal communication, sales and negotiation skills, and time management skills within an underwriting environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward or completion of professional designations (AU, CPCU, CIC) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support profitable growth in your assigned territory by achieving underwriting and production goals across key Commercial Lines products.
  • Build and maintain strong agency relationships, collaborating closely with agency staff, Business Development Representatives, and Renewal Underwriters.
  • Analyze account submissions, gather needed information, and advance accounts efficiently through the underwriting process.
  • Identify trends and opportunities within assigned agencies and contribute insights to support territory planning and portfolio management.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet service, production, and quality objectives.
  • Research and resolve underwriting questions, escalating issues appropriately while providing clear communication and solutions to agency and internal partners.
  • Maintain awareness of market activity to help inform underwriting decisions and positioning.
