Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Ability to enter into the Union Apprentice Program or currently enrolled
  • Ability to push, pull and lift up to 50lbs

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning (HVAC) maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of hazard and safety practices common to the trade
  • Familiarity with HVAC controls and safety devices
  • Understanding of appropriate Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) / chemical usages
  • Familiarity with tools of the trade, materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC systems
  • Basic understanding of building automation controls

Responsibilities

  • Inspect air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling units
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions
  • Install, replace, or repair damaged equipment; calibrate thermostatic controls
  • Install new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; repair and replace damaged or worn heating, ventilation and air-conditioning parts and equipment; repair or replace low- and high-pressure liquid lines
  • Inspect and observe pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of unit and make necessary adjustment; inspect and service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs, and heat pumps
  • Maintain the chilled and hot water supply systems
  • Adjust and maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems; cleans coils, blowers, checks motors, and belt tensions
  • Assemble and install metal ductwork
  • Assist in planning and designing of new installations of heating and air-conditioning systems
  • Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations
  • Recognize and identify potential risks and hazards associated with performing all work-related duties safely
  • Collaborate with management personnel to maintain safe working environments
