About The Position

The Commercial Grounds Operator (CGO) is responsible for operating commercial grounds equipment, such as tractors, trailers, gasoline shovels, backhoes, front-end loaders, and dump trucks and other heavy mechanized grounds equipment. The CGO is also responsible for maintaining and enhancing appearance safety, and functionality of outdoor commercial properties including lawns, gardens, walkways on Campus. The CGO will follow all safety protocols, operate equipment responsibly, and maintain clear communication with grounds leadership to uphold high standards of workplace safety while delivering quality grounds maintenance. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to effectively communicate to be able to perform job duties
  • At least one year of experience in operating commercial grounds equipment, landscaping maintenance equipment or related equipment experience
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing
  • Knowledge of procedures for operating heavy, complex, mechanized equipment in accord with manual, safety regulations, and other instructions
  • Knowledge of the operation of commercial grounds equipment, driving, and moving mechanized equipment
  • Ability to operate heavy, complex mechanized equipment
  • Ability to service and perform minor maintenance on commercial grounds equipment
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions and explanations
  • Skill in the operation of commercial grounds equipment
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and to prioritize assignments
  • Ability to do required lifting (up to 50 lbs)
  • Knowledge of CMMS/Work Order system usage, mobile technology
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Programs including email and spreadsheets

Nice To Haves

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • At least two or more years of experience in operating heavy, mechanized construction and maintenance equipment or in a related area
  • CDL License
