About The Position

The Commercial Field Technician will be directly involved with operational support of ethernet, and voice services delivered to Enterprise, SMB, and MDU locations.

Requirements

  • Associated Degree in Computer Science or information technologies is preferred. Or relevant work experience.
  • 2 years of fiber optic testing experience preferred.
  • Read and update inventory systems, network diagrams and all on site labeling.
  • Experience using an OTDR, and light meter.
  • Familiar with carrier ethernet saturation, frame-loss, and other quality testing protocols.
  • Fiber optic troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with VoIP and customer alarm systems.
  • Multi Dwelling Unit Experience, Enterprise customer experience.
  • Able to use Microsoft suite of applications including word, excel, and power point.
  • Skilled in basic telephony and computer equipment.
  • Familiar with aerial drop/cable installation, mechanical terminations, and testing
  • Possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • At times work in small, confined spaces or aloft (up to 28 ft.)
  • Be available for overtime, emergency callouts and holiday work as needed for maintain customer business operations.
  • Ability to identify wire and cable colors.
  • Physical ability to work from a kneeling or standing position for long periods.
  • Ability to read prints and assist with redlines/construction drawings.
  • Strong collaboration skills working cross functionally.
  • Strong troubleshooting analytical skills to quicky isolate and resolve service impacting issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Business fiber installation experience would be preferred.
  • Project Management is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge or MEF standards (MEF-CECP / Ciena CE-A/CE-P certifications preferred)
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP certifications preferred.
  • Fiber optic training certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install and verify configurations in customer-premise NID, routers, switches, and phones.
  • Service validation testing including network stress and reachability for Internet, Ethernet, and Voice/VoIP services
  • Diagnose, repair, replace faulty NID's, routers, switches, phones, cabling, and circuit components.
  • Diagnose and repair carrier ethernet ELINE/ELAN/EVC services and provisioning issues across the carrier ethernet network.
  • Troubleshoot and repair IP routing and connectivity issues.
  • Diagnose and repair fiber and optical CWDM/DWDM last mile components, verify fiber operability using OTDR and light meters.
  • Perform customer advocacy and own the customer's service issue.
  • Drive resolution through partner organizations.
  • Display empathy and maintain professionalism while handling difficult customer situations.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating facility records.
  • Physical ability to work in various environments such as attics, crawl spaces, and adverse weather.
  • Operate company vehicle/equipment safely and professionally.
  • Perform on-call rotation duties after regular business hours.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people.
