About The Position

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Commercial Glazing Estimator. An Estimator is a critical position within any Glass company. Estimators are responsible for evaluating bid specifications and blueprints ensuring that the company knows everything required to successfully bid and win the project contract. One must aggressively follow up with general contractors and architects to ensure bids are received, understood, and complete. Estimator will be responsible for estimating multiple large-scale commercial glass & glazing projects. They will be expected to establish and foster relationships with industry professionals, architects, manufacturers, general contractors and subcontractors. The role requires collaborative communication and a detail-oriented approach to all aspects of commercial glazing estimation.

Requirements

  • Able to read and review all new contracts from sales staff
  • Review project designs to make sure they are feasible
  • Write job folders- verify customer info
  • Create job tickets for crew measure
  • Schedule all crews on a daily basis- measure, install, warranty
  • Engineer new jobs
  • Assist/Project Manage larger jobs
  • Order weekly & monthly stock supplies
  • Strong math skills
  • Organizational skills, able to handle numerous projects at one time
  • Must be able to work in team environment
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in estimating commercial building projects
  • Experience in determining scope of work
  • Experience in understanding bid documents
  • Proficient at understanding and translating construction plans, drawings and specifications and generating accurate take-offs and estimates
  • Must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and be a motivated team player
  • Must be authorized to work within the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering background preferred but not required
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in the glass and glazing industry preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Review bid packages
  • Evaluate project leads to determine scope of work, contractual requirements and create a bidding strategy.
  • Develop accurate and concise clarifications and assumptions from contractors/architects
  • Prepare accurate quantity takeoff and pricing using architectural drawings, specifications and shop drawings
  • Manage multiple estimating projects concurrently with ability to multi-task
  • Solve problems and conflicts with potential glazing systems and the customization needed to meet architectural requirements
  • Materials ordering and management
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site tours and post bid interviews as required
  • Develop unit cost accurately with profitability margins
  • Consider and understand problems and identify appropriate solutions
  • Maintain detailed records of each project estimated.
  • Assist in soliciting company or vendor proposals.
  • Prepare and maintain status of plan reproduction.
  • Solicit along with maintain communication with General contractors, third party contractors as well as product vendors.
  • Prepare subcontractor bid packages.
  • Transmit addenda in addition to other bid information to General contractor.
  • Ensure that the company has proper coverage from subcontractors, labor, and materials on bid day.
  • Show creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing on quotes.
  • Submit 100% of bids on time and on budget "No exceptions".
  • Consistently follow up on submitted bids and budgets with Construction managers to close business.
