Commercial Equipment Operator
About The Position
To operate a solid waste disposal truck in order to pick up load and dispose of garbage or non-combustible rubbish from residential and commercial locations. Driving disposal truck. Collect solid waste from residences and commercial stops. Operate controls on trucks. Deliver and dump waste at landfill. Perform minor maintenance on trucks. Supervises crew members. Trains helpers in safe method of work. Fill out daily report. Checks for repairs needed on vehicles. Oversees vehicle maintenance. Communicates on radio. Work requires being onsite or in route to various locations in a city vehicle. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have knowledge of operation of disposal truck
- Must have knowledge of mechanical operation of truck
- Must have knowledge of Tyler city streets and route to be covered
- Must know safety requirements and practices
- Must have knowledge of filling out reports
- Must have knowledge of rules and regulations of city streets
- Must have knowledge, ability, and skill to distinguish between trash, garbage, and hazardous waste
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Must be able to carry out oral and/or written instructions
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit 4-10 hours daily
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, balance, reach, and handle 75 lbs. for several minutes
- Must be able to supervise crew members
- Must be able to operate safely
- Must be able to climb in and out of truck frequently
- Must have stamina to work 10 - 12 hours daily if necessary
- Must be able to communicate effectively with management, employees, and the general public, using a telephone or radio
- High school diploma or GED preferred, plus over one (1) year of experience driving a heavy vehicle such as a dump truck, garbage truck or a hauling vehicle
- Must possess a valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with air brake endorsement, and clear driving record
- Must be available to work any shift as assigned
