About The Position

About the Role: Reviews, approves, declines, or recommends new credit requests, as well as modifications, renewals, and term loan reviews while maintaining risk exposure consistent with bank loan quality guidelines. Responsible for oversight of workflow management for a credit underwriting and loan portfolio management team within the Commercial division and ensuring comprehensive analysis of all credit requests and servicing actions, as well as adherence to bank credit quality guidelines and other applicable policies. Coordinate workflow with other work groups to ensure smooth operation of the credit department and timely service to sales staff and associates, as well as customers. Review preflight memos, credit recommendations, and term loan reviews within a defined scope for accuracy, compliance with policy, and comprehensive credit risk analysis Collaborates with Commercial division team members to develop and maintain high quality loan portfolios. Coach bankers in the development of complete, accurate and well-structured credit recommendations, including guidance and advice on financial analyses, loan structuring and other credit skills. Helps maintain commercial credit quality standards and provides strong and consistent credit leadership. Monitors and verifies risk rating accuracy on loans submitted for approval. Advises team members on the risk rating process and ensures timely documentation of migrations. Ensures lending staff is aware of all relevant changes in credit requirements. Coordinates with Division/Department Director on any internal or external credit examinations including responses to audit exceptions. Manages monthly and quarterly construction and problem loan reviews. Develops and analyzes financial background data for new or renewed loans. May engage with existing or prospective clients as part of the bank’s due diligence and monitoring activities. Contributes to the development of credit policies, processes and methodologies. Demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations for assigned job function and applies to designated job responsibilities – knowledge may be gained through coursework and on-the-job training. Keeps up to date on regulation changes. Follows all Bank policies and procedures, compliance regulations, and completes all required annual or job-specific training. Maintain a working knowledge of Bank's written policies and procedures regarding Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation B, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security and other regulations as applicable to this job description. May be asked to coach, mentor, or train others and teach coursework as subject matter expert. Actively learns, demonstrates, and fosters the Columbia corporate culture in all actions and words. Requirements

  • More than 10 years — of relevant commercial lending and credit experience (Required)
  • Experience developing, modifying, and executing company policies that affect immediate operation(s) and company-wide effect.
  • Ability to regularly interact with senior or executive management on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions and/or customers.
  • Possess strong leadership, problem solving, analytical, mathematical, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from operating proformas, construction budgets, credit reports, financial reports, tax returns, and other financial statements and information for non-profit and for-profit entities.
  • Excellent knowledge of underwriting, reviewing and interpreting bank and subordinate lender legal documentation and third-party reports, and closing processes for commercial projects.
  • Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations.
  • Excellent relationship management and business development abilities, analytical and problem-solving skills, sales skills, and credit and credit quality skills with prior lending authority experience.
  • Experience directing the work and workflow of a team and developing/coaching others.
  • Expert knowledge of commercial lending products and services that result in successfully capitalizing on all opportunities to cross-sell the bank’s products.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills with the ability to change course (adaptable) at a moment’s notice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience managing commercial loan portfolio.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and industry specific software (Word, Excel,).
  • Ability to train and present to small and large audiences or has the interest in learning to train and present.
