About The Position

G.A. West & Co. is seeking a Commercial General Trades Estimator for a long-term opportunity. This position will be based out of the Mobile, Alabama area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 5 years of related experience, or 10 years of equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices
  • Ability to read, understand, and break down into discipline work packages and perform quantity take-offs for commercial architectural plans
  • Ability to read, comprehend and apply the specifications to subcontractor RFQs
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in a written form, with peers inside the organization, along with subcontractors, estimators, and clients
  • Proficient with the following software systems: Excel, Word, Primavera Scheduling, Bluebeam, and Timberline

Responsibilities

  • Dissect and distribute within the G.A. West corporate estimating group, the discipline work packages and coordinate the appropriate walk-throughs and meetings required
  • Prepare bid breakdown items to match the customer bid tabulation within estimating software
  • Collect RFIs from subcontractors, and submit RFIs to clients through the document control process
  • Review bid documents, revisions, and distribute accordingly to all trade partners inside and outside of GAW
  • Develop, support, and or lead construction kick off meetings internal and or client related
  • Establish initial project schedule, and project control reports with support of the GAW project control department for handover to field management
  • Review IFB to IFC drawings and provide feedback to the construction team per the established rates
  • Estimate for the building and finishes division, and at times the steel fabrication
  • Issue bid packages for subcontractor pricing, pricing of necessary materials for proposals
  • Attend pre-bid meetings & site visits, review of scopes and submitting RFI's for clarifications as needed
  • Complete all required documents for proposals; this may require taking the lead position for some bids
  • Prepare project schedules for proposals and for PEMB & interior finishing projects
  • Complete requisitions for materials and completing subcontractor contract documents; this includes completing the scope of work for each subcontractor
  • Assist Project Managers as needed throughout the project from an estimating standpoint vs implementation
  • Work closely with PEMB manufacturers, subcontractors and vendors to assure we have the required submittals. Review drawings and submittals to ensure that we are meeting the required specifications
  • Work with quality control in regard to obtaining and maintaining certifications endorsements
  • Review of project cost vs. estimated cost, review man-hours estimated vs. man-hours used
  • Bill for projects estimated and implemented where a full-time project manager is not required on site; assist project managers as needed for larger projects
  • Other duties as assigned
