About The Position

The Commercial Cleaning/Custodial Training - Correctional Instructor will provide vocational, life skills & job preparation instruction to incarcerated individuals.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Job or work experience in a relating vocational and/or life skills subject area.
  • Ability to operate and move heavy equipment by demonstrating safety and usage.
  • Ability to teach or demonstrate course work or job experiences associated with the Commercial Cleaning/Custodial Training program.
  • Candidate must be able to develop lessons/course syllabus, maintain attendance time sheets, rosters, and create daily assignments for students.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Applicant must complete the NC Department of Public Safety background check form.

Nice To Haves

  • A background in teaching is preferred, but not required.
  • Effective English communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to relate to and communicate well with individuals from all socio-economic levels and ethnic groups.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.
  • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
  • Connect their subject matter with related fields.
  • Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.
  • Use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning, including lesson plans for each class meeting.
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
  • Modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives.
  • Maintain accurate student rosters and attendance.
  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives.
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
  • Maintain teacher/student relationships appropriate for a correctional program setting.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for all instructional resources.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and orderly classroom at all times.
