About The Position

IBTS is currently accepting applications for a full-time Commercial Building Inspector position for work located within the Richmond, VA and surrounding area. IBTS has an immediate need for an experienced inspector to work on multi-year, technically rewarding commercial, educational, and construction projects. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform multidisciplinary field inspections of structures and infrastructure during various stages of construction including but not limited to commercial building, electrical, mechanical, gas, fire suppression, plumbing inspections and re-inspections to ascertain compliance with the approved plans, specifications, product manufacturers’ instructions and applicable building construction codes. Provide information relating to building construction codes; assist architects, engineers, contractors and others in interpreting building code requirements. Prepare and maintain forms, records, and reports relative to daily inspection activities. Work effectively in a team environment or independently. Review plans for building code compliance. Perform other related duties as required. Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience in one of the following trades: Engineering/Architecture Building Inspections Building Construction
  • The willingness and ability to obtain (within 18 months of date of hire) ICC or Virginia DHCD certification in at least one of the following disciplines: Building Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Note: equivalent state certifications and/or registration as a licensed engineer will be considered.
  • The willingness and ability to obtain (within 2 years of date of hire) an ICC or Virginia DHCD certification as a Combination Inspector.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of building codes during the inspection process and report on compliance of complex construction projects.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
