About The Position

The Commercial Banking Market Manager is responsible for managing and leading business banking activities, production, and profitability within an assigned market. This role oversees a portfolio of approximately $200-500 million and serves clients with revenues between $1-15 million. The manager leads a team of Business Banking Relationship Managers to achieve strategic objectives and production goals while developing market strategies aligned with the bank's goals. The position emphasizes community engagement and relationship building to drive business opportunities and support production teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or a related field; Master's degree/MBA preferred.
  • 7-10 years of prior experience in small business or commercial lending required.
  • 4-7 years of prior management experience leading a production team.
  • Experience developing and implementing a market strategy to achieve results/goals.
  • Excellent relationship management and business development abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sales skills, and credit acumen.
  • Experience directing and leading team activities with overall responsibility for strategic planning and performance management.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with executive levels.
  • Experience managing and developing others and building relationships.
  • Proven track record of success in developing new clients and business.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with small and large audiences, including presentations to executives.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills with adaptability to change.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn new business software.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead business banking activity, production, and profitability in an assigned market.
  • Oversee a portfolio of approximately $200-500 million and serve clients with $1-15 million in revenue.
  • Manage a team of Business Banking Relationship Managers to meet strategic objectives and production goals.
  • Develop and execute market strategy aligned with bank strategic goals.
  • Build partnerships to attract business relationships and support production teams.
  • Maintain a personal commitment to the community and promote Umpqua Bank in the market.
  • Manage the P&L of the assigned market and establish goals and strategies to meet the bank's aspirations.
  • Lead prudent risk and portfolio management to maintain and grow a quality Business Banking portfolio.
  • Develop and nurture relationships within the community to grow new customers and increase business development opportunities.
  • Participate in community events and board memberships as the face of the bank.
  • Develop and implement cross-selling strategies with bank partners.
  • Grant credit approvals within delegated authorities and achieve satisfactory credit exams.
  • Manage credit risk within the market and ensure compliance with bank regulations.
  • Identify, hire, manage, motivate, and retain top talent within the team.
  • Responsible for the professional development of associates in the assigned market.
