About The Position

We're currently hiring a Command Center System Technician for a key role supporting fire safety and environmental systems across Presbyterian University Hospital, Scaife Hall, and surrounding facilities. This position plays a critical part in maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for our patients, visitors, students, and staff. Responsibilities include supervising building systems and coordinating with city fire and police departments during emergency situations. Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Four (4) years of experience in maintenance required.
  • Knowledge of standard fire safety systems and emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of direct digital building systems control.
  • Ability to quickly analyze problems and initiate corrective action in an emergency.
  • Knowledge of BACnet control systems required.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills preferred.
  • Act 34

Nice To Haves

  • Apprenticeship and/or trade school training in electrical or mechanical maintenance preferred.
  • HVAC background or experience with building automation control preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred
  • One (1) year experience in a supervisory position preferred.
  • Knowledge of Siemens, Automated Logic, and Voltec Control System and Swisslog Pneumatic Tube System a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use software engineering tools and a thorough understanding of HVAC systems to service DDC programmable controllers.
  • Present knowledge of all emergency procedures. Advise UPMC staff in following these procedures.
  • Provide around-the-clock surveillance of and trouble shoot failures of building systems, fire systems, safety systems and climate control systems through data displays in the command center. Work with the engineers in the field to resolve failures immediately. Consult and coordinate with safety, security and other maintenance staff in non-routine situations.
  • Troubleshoot and perform operational checks of DDC systems, including installation and commissioning. Work closely with the engineers on the installation and programming of building DDC systems during in house construction projects.
  • Initiate and maintain daily trends to meet compliance requirements. Advise safety, security and maintenance on adverse trends and potential problems. Recommend corrective action and notify the appropriate personnel when out of compliance.
  • Serve as communication liaison between UPMC on-call and supervisory personnel, City fire and police and contractors during emergencies and/or when difficult problems arise. Recommend corrective action when appropriate. Evaluate conflicting information and initiate action to resolve same.
  • Initiate work orders for repairs found necessary during routine activities.
  • Maintain logs and records related to command center activity.
