This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight. As a Combustion Aerothermal Engineer, you will work on Engine combustion systems and components to meet the growing needs of Blue Origin Engineering. Applying your expertise in combustion fundamentals, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics, you will optimize performance, ensure thermal integrity, and address combustion challenges. You will derive boundary conditions, perform detailed analyses, and predict thermal states of components through complete mission scope. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience in combustion system design and/or thermal analysis
  • Proficiency with computational thermal analysis software (ANSYS Classic and Workbench, Thermal Desktop)
  • Strong understanding of combustion fundamentals, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
  • Experience with high-temperature gas dynamics and property relations
  • Experience analyzing combustion efficiency, emissions, and thermal performance
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency with productivity tools

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or PhD in an engineering discipline with focus on propulsion, thermal sciences, or combustion
  • 5+ years of experience with engine combustion devices
  • Advanced knowledge of computational methods for multi-physics coupling
  • Experience with experimental combustion diagnostics and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing for combustion components
  • Prior experience in thermal/fluid testing and instrumentation definition

Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal analysis of chamber assemblies, injectors, and other combustion devices at varying levels of maturity and detail
  • Design and analyze combustion systems and components for performance and thermal integrity
  • Optimize reactant mixing for performance and stability
  • Define and anchor thermal predictions to test data
  • Support instrumentation planning for test hardware and analyze test results
  • Advocate for methods that improve component and analysis performance and reliability
  • Conduct peer review of thermal analyses across engine programs
  • Document technical analysis and design rationale
