About The Position

Venture Dynamics is seeking skilled and experienced Combo Welders to perform structural welding, fitting, and fabrication aboard Navy and commercial vessels. Combo Welders will execute SMAW and FCAW structural welds, fit and fabricate steel components, perform torch and plasma cutting, and support shipfitting tasks involving layout, fit-up, structural repair, and steel renewal. This role requires strong welding proficiency, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to work safely in shipboard and industrial marine environments. Per diem may be available on select projects depending on contract requirements and travel distance.

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of structural welding and fabrication experience in shipyard or industrial environments
Proficiency in SMAW (stick) and FCAW (flux core) welding processes
Ability to pass ABS, AWS, or customer-required weld tests
Strong ability to read blueprints, structural drawings, and weld maps
Skilled in fitting, layout, fabrication, and steel preparation
Proficient with oxy-fuel torch cutting, plasma cutting, and hot-work tools
Must supply and maintain a personal tool set appropriate for structural welding and fitting
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, navigate confined spaces, and work aboard vessels
Ability to lift 4060 lbs and perform physically demanding welding and fitting tasks
Must pass background check and drug screening
Ability to obtain DBIDS/base access when required
Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts as needed

Nice To Haves

ABS or AWS structural welding certifications
Experience welding aboard Navy vessels or to NAVSEA welding standards
Experience with insert installation, steel renewal, and heavy fabrication work
OSHA-10 Maritime
Ability to wear a respirator when required for hot-work, confined-space, blasting, paint, or insulation areas
Experience assisting multi-trade structural or rigging operations

Responsibilities

Perform structural welding using SMAW and FCAW in all required positions
Fit and fabricate structural components including bulkheads, foundations, frames, collars, brackets, and reinforcements
Execute weld preparation including beveling, grinding, joint fit-up, and alignment to tolerance
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, weld symbols, and structural drawings
Use oxy-fuel torches and plasma cutters for cutting, heating, beveling, and layout work
Assist with insert installation, steel renewals, and major structural modifications
Take measurements and verify alignment using squares, levels, tapes, plumb lines, and precision tools
Operate grinders, cutting tools, clamps, dogs, wedges, and come-alongs
Work in confined spaces, overheads, machinery spaces, and tight compartments aboard vessels
Follow NAVSEA, OSHA Maritime, and shipyard safety requirements
Maintain housekeeping standards, tool control, and safe welding practices
