About The Position

Join us as a Combination Service Worker in our Transit Division! This position performs preventive maintenance work, cleans, fuels, and checks fluids on Transit vehicles and other equipment. In this position you will also troubleshoot transit bus breakdowns on the road, perform intermediate mechanical work on the Transit fleet, and more! Under general direction, performs preventive maintenance work, cleans, fuels, and checks fluids on Transit vehicles. This position uses intermediate mechanical skills to service transit coaches and other equipment, and provides support to the Transit maintenance shop operations. This position could fill in for Transit Shop Mechanics during leave times.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.)
• Must be able to obtain a CDL learner's permit within 2 weeks of hire.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B CDL, with passenger ('P') endorsement, and no air brake restrictions within 45 days of hire.
• A basic set of hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance work on Transit vehicles.
• Clean, fuel, and check fluids on Transit vehicles.
• Troubleshoot transit bus breakdowns on the road.
• Perform intermediate mechanical work on the Transit fleet.
• Fuel, wash, and park all transit vehicles.
• Check tire pressure and oil levels.
• Remove fare boxes and perform interior cleaning and exterior waxing.
• Perform minor mechanical work under the supervision of a Transit Bus Mechanic.
• Clean shop and storage areas.
• Perform road calls and equipment change-offs alone.
• Operate a laptop computer to process work orders using the City's fleet management work order program.
