About The Position

VTG is seeking a Combination Metal Mechanic located in their Fabrication Shop in Virginia Beach, VA. This role involves assembling, erecting, fitting, welding, and testing metal assemblies using a variety of power tools, hand tools, and welding equipment. The mechanic will perform tasks such as arc welding, cutting and grinding, cutting metal with an Oxygen/Acetylene torch or hand-held plasma cutting machine, positioning and clamping components for welding, and assembling and testing electrical and mechanical systems on assemblies for proper operation.

Requirements

• HS plus two - three years related experience; AS plus one
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Must pass precertification company welding test.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, erect, fit, weld, and test metal assemblies, using a variety of power tools, hand tools, and welding equipment by performing the following duties:
• Welds metal parts together using a combination of arc welding processes.
• Performs related tasks such as cutting and grinding.
• Cuts metal using Oxygen/Acetylene torch or hand held plasma cutting machine.
• Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
• Assembles components such as hydraulic hoses and pumps, electrical motors, electrical wire harnesses, mechanical jacks, fabricated assemblies, etc.
• Tests electrical and mechanical systems on assemblies for proper operation.
