About The Position

Performs inspections of residential structures to ensure compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. This role also involves performing inspections related to stormwater management and erosion and sediment control. The position requires assisting with clerical work, including completing reports and notices, answering telephones, and interacting with contractors, property owners, developers, and representatives of local, state, or federal agencies, both in the field and in the office. The inspector will conduct field inspections of residential building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems at various stages of construction and renovation, ensuring compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Requirements

• Completion of a standard high school course, or equivalent GED program.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in building trades, construction, code enforcement, or land development.
• Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certification and Stormwater Management Inspector certification.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a combination Residential Inspector certification from Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.
• Valid driver's license.
• Any combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
