Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Combination Building Inspector I: Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible construction job site experience or project management skills; and two (2) years' experience in the building trades; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License
  • ICC Residential Building Inspector certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
  • ICC Residential Mechanical and Plumbing certification with 1 approved ICC inspector elective for a total of four (4) ICC certifications over 18 months of employment
  • Failing to obtain required certifications and/or training within stated time frames will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
  • Combination Building Inspector II: Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent Experience: At least one (1) year performing residential inspections and one (1) year performing commercial inspections for a total of two (2) years' municipal inspection experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License
  • ICC Commercial Building, Commercial Mechanical, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, and Residential Building Inspector
  • Failing to obtain required certifications and/or training within stated time frames will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
  • Combination Building Inspector III: Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent Experience: At least one (1) year as a Combination Building Inspector II with two (2) years performing progressively responsible commercial inspections for a total of three (3) years' municipal inspection experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License
  • Commercial Building Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Residential Building Inspector, Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, and Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner.
  • Failing to obtain required certifications and/or training within stated time frames will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
  • Knowledge of residential building, plumbing, mechanical and structural codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Knowledge of residential building inspection criteria.
  • Skill in reading blue prints, architectural drawings, and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as building, plumbing, and mechanical codes, the Town ordinance, and architectural drawings.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of tools and equipment, such as architect and engineering scales.
  • Ability to drive to and physically access construction sites to perform inspections in varying weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand on a ladder, pinch or grip objects, talk and hear.
  • Exposure to adverse environmental conditions is possible including dirt, dust, odors, fumes and noise extremes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Candidate must satisfactorily complete a driving record check and criminal background check prior to commencing employment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects residential projects for building code and ordinance compliance; documents any corrections needed to assure such compliance.
  • Advises and educates property owners, architects, builders and engineers on matters regarding building code compliance and zoning ordinances.
  • Prepares reports on inspections; coordinates code interpretation with other inspectors or departments.
  • Researches codes for adoption and amendments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
