About The Position

Astrion is looking for a former Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) helicopter pilot or aircrew member who wants to use their operational experience to shape the next generation of mission planning software. This isn’t a coding role — it’s about flying, testing, and validating new software in a developmental environment so we can catch issues before they ever reach the operational squadrons. You’ll serve as the bridge between the operators and the engineers, ensuring mission planning tools are reliable, intuitive, and combat-ready.

Requirements

  • Have USAF helicopter/CSAR aircrew experience (HH-60 Pave Hawk strongly preferred).
  • Understand mission planning procedures and the realities of combat rescue ops.
  • Have moved into program management, acquisitions, training, or related work but still want to stay hands-on with the mission.
  • Hold an active Secret clearance (TS eligible).
  • Master's degree and 10 years or more of relevant experience. Additional experience may be substituted for education in order to meet requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS).
  • Experience in software test/evaluation or acquisition processes.
  • Strong communication skills (briefings, presentations, reports).

Responsibilities

  • Fly/test CSAR helicopters with new developmental mission planning software.
  • Identify software issues and ensure fixes before operational fielding.
  • Provide mission planning expertise to software developers and program managers.
  • Support design reviews, qualification tests, and evaluations (CONUS/OCONUS travel 10–20%).
