About The Position

Testing and Commissioning engineers are a front-line field engineering force that commissions, maintains, and troubleshoots transmission and distribution level protection and control systems inside ComEd substations. System and equipment types include protective relays, SCADA, substation automation, power and control equipment, fiber-optic, power line carrier, and revenue metering. The Testing and Commissioning engineers perform field testing and commissioning engineering activities associated with installation of new equipment along with troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance of existing equipment. The work associated with commissioning new equipment serves to improve system performance and upgrade capacity of the system. Commissioning new equipment includes creating commissioning plans, writing livening procedures, creating and running test plans, and analyzing test results compared to expected values. They also troubleshoot and perform field investigations for malfunctioning power equipment, system events and protective relaying misoperations. They then support corrective maintenance to repair any identified equipment issues. Lastly, the Testing and Commissioning engineers perform preventive maintenance on protection system components and SCADA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 4 or more years of relevant experience, or 6 or more years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to analyze and interpret electrical and mechanical systems
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches
  • Knowledge of construction, operations or engineering principles and practices
  • Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform routine assignments for a specific discipline installation, or service
  • Relevant experience in military role, project management, journey-level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility related experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct CMs, PMs, and project installation testing activities on power equipment
  • Create commissioning plans and write livening procedures
  • Create and run test plans and analyze test results
  • Troubleshoot and perform field investigations for malfunctioning power equipment
  • Support corrective maintenance to repair identified equipment issues
  • Perform preventive maintenance on protection system components and SCADA
  • Direct and support substation maintenance and contractor crews
  • Interface with various departments to support daily work activities
  • Maintain engineering drawings and relay/SCADA database management
  • Support NERC/CIP audit and engineering PM & CM maintenance programs

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $87,200.00/Yr. - $119,900.00/Yr.
