About The Position

Testing and Commissioning engineers are a front-line field engineering force that commissions, maintains, and troubleshoots transmission and distribution level protection and control systems inside ComEd substations. System and equipment types include protective relays, SCADA, substation automation, power and control equipment, fiber-optic, power line carrier, and revenue metering.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 0-3 years of technical experience, an associate's degree and 2-5 years of technical experience, or 5-7 years of technical experience or relevant education if non-degreed or a non-technical degree.
  • Successful completion of the TECH Test (A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test requirement).
  • Good knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline for maintenance, testing, installation or service.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics and use basic test instruments.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Technical experience related to electrical power equipment.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing and commissioning engineering activities associated with installation of new equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance of existing equipment.
  • Create commissioning plans, write livening procedures, create and run test plans, and analyze test results compared to expected values.
  • Support corrective maintenance to repair any identified equipment issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on protection system components and SCADA.
  • Direct and support substation maintenance and contractor crews on work associated with these systems.
  • Interface with ComEd's Central T&S Engineering, Work Management, Project Management, Operations, Data Maintenance, and Substation Maintenance departments.
  • Support the T&S daily work activities and play a critical role in substation outage/work planning.
  • Maintain engineering drawings, relay/SCADA database management, and NERC/CIP audit support.
