About The Position

Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring both entry level and experienced deckhands onboard to support our fleeting operations in Columbus, KY. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and a TWIC card. The Columbus vessels operate on various schedules including 21/21, 14/7, and 7/7. After completing orientation, candidates will be assigned to a vessel. It is important to note that candidates are responsible for their own transportation to and from their work hitches.

  • Must be able to read and write the English language to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole
  • Be able to climb a ladder and board and ride in a skiff

Responsibilities

  • Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges)
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assist with locking
  • Carry rigging (ratchets, wires and straps) pumps, hoses and lines
  • Work outdoors for extended periods of time in various weather conditions
  • Check barges for water and leaks, which may require climbing into confined spaces
  • Upkeep of vessel appearance including washing, chipping and painting
  • Assist the Engineer as requested
  • Practice safe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participate in safety drills and audits
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
