About The Position

The Department of Surgery at The University of Wisconsin is recruiting an exceptional colorectal surgeon to join our Division of Colorectal Surgery . We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience. The selected finalist will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of colorectal surgical care from cancer to complex benign disease processes. There are opportunities to contribute to medical student, resident, and fellow education as well as program building for our collaborative, multidisciplinary efforts at UW. This position will include an elective colorectal surgical practice primarily based at the University Hospital (UH) and UnityPoint Meriter Hospital (Meriter). Clinic will primarily be located at UW Health Digestive Disease Center (DHC) along with participating in other multidisciplinary collaborative clinics. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor on the Clinical Health Science (CHS) track, and Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, and Clinical Professor on the Clinical Teaching (CT) Track. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years. Department: School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Surgery, Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery The UW Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is one of the nation’s leading clinical and academic surgical divisions, known for taking care of some of the region’s most complicated colorectal patients and balancing these efforts with outstanding research. The division includes federally funded surgeon-scientists participating in benchtop research and clinical trials to prevent anal cancer as well as health system-wide interventions to improve outcomes for older patients undergoing colorectal surgery. As part of the nationally acclaimed Carbone Cancer Center, patients from around the region with complex and recurrent colorectal cancer seek their care at UW. This division has also developed one of the earliest and busiest ileal pouch programs with robust clinical research to support these efforts. The UW Colorectal Surgery Division also leads regionally through the Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin, establishing best practices and guidelines for general surgery programs throughout the state. The Wisconsin Department of Surgery is one of the leading surgical programs in the nation, excelling in patient care, surgical education, and surgical research. We are composed of more than 130 full-time faculty across 10 divisions and nearly 200 additional staff who support our mission. Our surgeons perform almost 20,000 operations per year for pediatric and adult patients. Training the next generation of surgeons and clinician-scientists is integral in our department, with more than 100 residents and fellows trained each year. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services including academic resources such as the Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which provides support, resources, and a collaborative environment to facilitate surgical health services research. The Department's Office of Clinical Research provides clinical trial coordinator support for clinical trials as well regulatory support for research, and the grants management team provides comprehensive pre-award to post-award support.

Requirements

• Wisconsin Medical License by appointment start date.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Surgery through the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent by appointment start date
• Board certification or board eligibility through the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery by the appointment start date.
• MD or DO, or equivalent required

• For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.
• For an appointment at Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor rank on CT Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CT Track.

Responsibilities

• Elective i npatient and outpatient surg ical practice will occur at UH, Meriter and Madison Surgery Center
• Colorectal surgery call includes coverage of U W Health locations with inpatient services
• Elective c olonoscopy time is available at DHC if desired
• Support for research and/or programmatic participation/development will also be considered.
• Teach medical students, residents and fellows.
• Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
• An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
