About The Position

This position is designed for individuals preparing for careers as a Police Officer. As a cadet you will attend and satisfactorily complete the Collin College Law Enforcement Academy, qualifying for commissioning as a peace officer of the Collin College Police Department. Responsible for successfully fulfilling the academic and physical training requirements of the Basic Peace Officer course conducted by the Collin College Law Enforcement Academy. This job carries with it the obligation to uphold the mission of Collin College in carrying out the duties of the position. May be required to work either day or night on any, one or multiple shifts with varying days off and on holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Must be a United States citizen or eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must have an Honorable discharge if prior Military experience.
  • Must be able to pass Extensive Medical Screen/ Drug Testing/ Psychological Exam/Polygraph Exam/Background Investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Twelve (12) earned hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and insurability with the college's insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to maintain TCOLE Peace Officer's license and complete and pass all TCOLE required training throughout employment as a Peace Officer.
  • Individuals hired for this position may be required to drive a company vehicle. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be run in conjunction with the background check during the contingent offer stage and annually/bi-annually for the duration of employment at Collin College. Candidates who fail the original background/MVR report or subsequent MVR reports may not be hired and/or terminated based on the results of the report.

Responsibilities

  • Attend class and complete homework assignments.
  • Maintain 80% or above average throughout academy (prefer 90%).
  • Participate in and satisfactorily complete the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program, practical problem solving and academic blocks of instruction.
  • Complies with assignments, policies, procedures, directives and instructions given by the Director of Collin College Law Enforcement Academy or the Law Enforcement Academy staff.
  • Adhere to rules and regulations of Collin College, Collin College Police Department General Orders, and any other rules and regulations applicable to state law.
  • Ensure that academic integrity, both individually/personally and as a member of a class, is continuously maintained.
  • May be required to take offensive and/or defensive action during physical confrontations.
  • May be exposed to animal and human body fluids, hazards of emergency driving, hazards associated with traffic control and working in and near traffic, working in and near natural and man-made disasters, inclement weather conditions, and extreme temperatures.
  • May involve exposure to an emergency public safety environment, emergency and disaster situations, potentially hostile environments, and dangerous and/or hostile people.
  • Requires the ability to discharge a firearm safely.
  • Requires the ability to operate motorized equipment and assigned vehicles safely.
  • Requires frequent contact with the public.
  • All positions requiring peace officer certification should be prepared for full field duty at any time, regardless of primary assignment.
  • Personnel may be reassigned to field duty, permanently or temporarily, to ensure appropriate field staffing levels.
  • Works irregular hours that include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Works overtime with short or no notice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with college policies, procedures and Core Values.
